Small groups

At Good News Church we want to be dedicated disciples of Jesus. Not just reading the Bible and listening to teaching, but actively applying that knowledge to our lives so that we live what we learn and grow to be more like Jesus. Small Groups are designed to help facilitate that.

FAQs

+ What is a small group?

A Small Group is a group of 10-14 people who meet weekly to study and support one another in their day to day lives. These groups study the Bible with focus on a previous Sunday morning sermon and how that message can be applied practically in each person’s context. Not only that but the group supports one another, prays together and encourages one another as relationships are built.

+ Where are the small groups held?

We currently have groups in Wimborne, Merley and Ferndown. Evening groups are held in people’s homes. But location isn’t everything, whilst we want groups to be easy to get to, you don’t have to join the nearest to you, join the one you want to be a part of.

+ What is the commitment?

Attending your group regularly is key to building community and a strong group. The stronger a group is the more each member will get out of it. If you sign up to a group we would ask you to commit to attend weekly for that block. However we appreciate there will be occasions when things come up such which will keep you away. If you and the group isn’t for you, you are of course welcome to move.

+ Why should I join a small group?

When God saves us, He places us in community for our good and our growth. It is in community that we are able to support and care for one another, pray together, sharing the good times and the bad. It is also in community that we can grow, learning from each other, provoking one another and sharing life together. Community is key to our growth as disciples of Jesus and so we want everyone at Good News Church to be part of a Small Group where they can grow.

+ When do small groups run?

Small Groups run three times a year for a period of 6 to 10 weeks with a break over the summer. Groups run on a Wednesday or Thursday evening. The exact times of meeting for each group is group specific but most will run from 8:00 - 9:30pm with the morning group running from 10:00 – 11:30am.

+ Who can join a small group?

Small Groups are for anyone connected to Good News Church, whatever your age and whatever stage of life.

+ How do I join a small group?

You can sign up to a group which has space at the beginning of each block. At the end of each block you have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a different one or taking a break and not going to a group for a block. You can sign up to a group on a Sunday morning, via churchsuite, or by contacting the church office.

+ What will be studied?

Each week study notes will be produced which will compliment the weekend message. These will be available at the Sunday morning service and online for those who are unable to attend on the Sunday. These study notes will include Bible passages to read and questions to consider which will help apply the weekend message in real life. We would encourage you to work through the notes prior to meeting as a group to discuss them as this will help you get most out of the study. By looking at the notes in advance you will have the opportunity to apply the message to your situation before hearing of others’. Whilst considering the notes prior to meeting is beneficial it is not essential.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 John 1:7
